A Look at Hennepin County Detention Facilities

I have been following Hennepin County meetings recently for the new Hennepin Herald. Here is some of what I learned about the plans and challenges related to the juvenile and adult detention centers the county runs. Budget approval for renovations next year at the Hennepin County Juvenile Detention Center (JDC), and consistently high numbers of adults at the county jail have raised questions about the long-term future of the county’s detention facilities. Hennepin County operates two facilities at three locations in downtown Minneapolis, through the Sheriff’s Office and the Department of Community Corrections and Rehabilitation (DOCCR). The downtown facilities are designed to detain people who have been arrested but have not yet been legally charged, sentenced, or completed the Department of Human Services commitment process. https://hennepinherald.beehiiv.com/p/detention-centers-under-scrutiny
